A response to overrated experts!!

There is a section of the press that is arguing that Anna Hazare's demands are undemocratic. If the process demanded by Anna Hazare is "undemocratic", then we have got the wrong definition of "democracy". "Largest democracy on the face of the planet", perhaps we are not, if we cannot demand a graft law in the correct form. It took 59 years for the elected representatives to pass the right legislation that clearly defines corruption and punishment for such an act. May I ask why? It is because the ones who are drafting the legislation are protecting themselves. There is a clear conflict of interest.

In a democracy, the elected representative is nothing but the mere instrument to execute the due process of passing a legislation - the citizens are the real ones who can/should demand the main tenets of that legislation and would be fulfilling their civic duties by doing so - I even refuse to accept that they are exercising their rights. There is nothing "undemocratic" about this - this is the sign of true democracy. We should demand and have a legislation in place that clearly defines corruption, punishes it severely and most importantly recovers the ill-gotten wealth from the perpetrators.

If "elected representative" had been doing their duty, INR 17,000 crs would not have been lost in the 2G scam - they would have just been misplaced. 7 years rigorous imprisonment would not the worst case punishment for INR 3,000 crs of loss of exchequer in CW games - it would have been life imprisonment for the ones responsible. The world wouldn't be laughing at us for having a scam that was equal to our 1-year GDP (which grew at 8% for the past 9 years).

Yes, Anna Hazare is right. If they can't get it done and get it right in 59 years, its time the people who know really know what to do and how to do it, be given the opportunity to do so.

"We the people of India will be the investigators, judge and the jury when it comes to corruption. No one, even the ones elected by us, will have the right to subvert us. "
